Client Royal Society of Medicine
Architect MJS Architects
Structural Engineers  Waterman Partnership Structural Engineers
Location Wimpole Street, London
Programme 12 weeks

To celebrate The Royal Society of Medicine’s bicentenary year, a project of refurbishment works to their headquarter building in Wimpole Street was planned, including refurbishment of the main atrium area, main reception, fellows area, library, rare books reading room, lecture theatre and cloak room.

Our expertise with temporary works design and installation and robotic demolition techniques was employed to undertake the major structural re-modeling works necessary for the project whilst the client remained in occupation.

Works involved:

  • Strip out of the existing areas
  • Design and installation of temporary works.
  • Forming large structural openings through load bearing walls.
  • Robotic demolition of mezzanine reinforced concrete slabs and masonry walls
  • Diamond sawing and drilling
  • General builderswork in connection with the refurbishment.
  • Special protection to rare books area and protected areas of the building.

The project was successfully completed on time and with minimum disruption to the Society’s day to day business.
