Project Description

Charterhouse Square, Clerkenwell

Project

Project: Grade 2 listed Townhouse restored to its former glory
Client: The Charterhouse
Value: £2.5M

Forcia have completed the remodel and refurbishment of a Georgian, Grade 2 listed building on Charterhouse Square. The property was built in 1697 and is in the heart of Clerkenwell, within the Charterhouse Square Conservation Area, overlooking the Charterhouse’s 14th century monastic buildings. The project would have once been a residential townhouse in its original form of glory, now it is in commercial office use and the project represented an opportunity for it to be largely restored in a sensitive manner, however as a part of the project, we also enabled the building to function as a contemporary office building by adding contemporary extension.

We refurbished the original rooms to reinstate the proper hierarchy of the former townhouse that has slowly been eroded over the its 300-year history.  The modern extension to the back of the building, now provides fantastic equipped conferencing facilities. We also enabled the ground and lower ground suite of rooms to support the needs of a modern office building. All of spaces were elegantly proportioned and they are contained within the original building. They are supplemented by new and contemporary shower & WC facilities at lower ground level.
